Dr Tom Blaen graduated in 2002 with a First Class Honours BA in History from the University of Wales, followed by a Masters of Arts degree with Merit and a PhD from the University of Exeter.  His doctoral thesis was on Precious Stones in Early Modern Britain which examined the medical uses of precious stones in sixteenth and seventeenth century Britain and, alongside his studies, he has been Director of The Assemblage Point Centre Ltd., The Assemblage Point Association and The Energy Medicine Association since their foundation.  He treats patients, teaches both the courses run by the APC Ltd. and also teaches at British universities.  His publications include “The Popular Use of Precious Stones Medicinally in Early Modern Scotland” in K. Georganta et al. (eds), The Apothecary’s Chest (Newcastle: Cambridge Scholar’s Press, 2009) and he has presented various papers at Oxford, Glasgow and Exeter Universities and has organised university conferences.  He is currently preparing various publications based on his PhD topic and is an Associate of the Higher Education Academy. Tom is a Senior Practitioner of the British Register of Complementary Practitioners (Energy Medicine Division) and a member of the Institute of Complementary and Natural Medicine. In 2012 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. His new book on the historical use of gemstones in medicine, magic, science and religion is now avaliable.
